Prior to last year’s play-in game, LeBron James and the reigning champion Los Angeles Lakers had more than just Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors to worry about. While progressing to the traditional playoff bracket was undoubtedly the priority, the final stretch of the regular season had been hampered by Dennis Schroder’s entry into health and safety procedures for COVID-19, as well as James’ outspoken mistrust of the vaccination. Then there was the fact that James went against league policy by attending a promotional event with other celebrities.
Fortunately for the Lakers, these situations are unlikely to occur this season, since the club aims to achieve a 100% immunization rate before the regular season begins. That’s also excellent news, since if the players hadn’t been properly vaccinated, an upcoming LA vaccination policy might have jeopardized the organization’s competitive integrity.
LeBron James and the Lakers have been completely vaccinated, but LBJ continues to be chastised.
At Lakers Media Day, LeBron James stated that he decided to be immunized because it was the best option for his family and friends. From a broader viewpoint, the choice made even more sense.
General manager Rob Pelinka and several players said emphatically that the club will be fully vaccinated by Opening Night on Oct. 19. Despite his reservations, James was determined that everyone on the team get vaccinated. While LeBron has been inoculated, he has not been immune to criticism.
During his Media Day speech about his decision to receive the injections, James avoided making a larger public statement encouraging his NBA teammates to be immunized. Enes Kanter, a Boston Celtics center, was upset by the message and criticized LBJ on CNN. Kareem Abdul-strays Jabbar’s were also captured by him. The majority of the criticism seems to come from James’ failure to use his influence as the NBA’s most powerful voice to urge his colleagues to safeguard the public’s welfare.
Even if LeBron isn’t living up to certain expectations, his personal choice to get immunized is all the more important in light of recent events in Los Angeles.

After LA adopted one of the strictest immunization regulations in the country, the Lakers’ organizational position on receiving the vaccine became more widespread.
On Wednesday, Mayor Eric Garcetti signed a law requiring customers and workers to provide evidence of immunization in order to enter indoor public places. Yes, it includes Laker games.
“Our only way out of this epidemic is to vaccinate more Angelenos, and we must do all we can to keep pushing those numbers up,” Garcetti said in a statement, according to the Associated Press. “These new regulations will encourage more individuals to receive the vaccine while also making workplaces safer for employees and consumers, allowing us to save more lives.”
Some City Council members believed the requirement was too harsh on local companies and may create confusion due to less stringent regulations in LA County, which encompasses the city of LA. However, following a large increase of COVID cases in LA last winter, it may be a preventive step.
The new requirement is expected to compel Lakers and Clippers players to be immunized, similar to what Warriors players had to deal with in San Francisco. However, it isn’t a worry for LeBron James and his teammates as long as LA is fully immunized before to the start of the season.
The Lakers’ new mission might have been a major stumbling block. Instead, it’s largely insignificant as Los Angeles attempts to regain the NBA title.
The Lakers won’t be concerned with COVID problems that aren’t essential.

Even if they achieve 100 percent immunization, the Lakers may still have COVID problems. However, they reduce risk and don’t have to worry about missing out on key players due to municipal requirements, like the Brooklyn Nets are now experiencing with Kyrie Irving.
Last season, the Lakers demonstrated that they would need all of their components, including and particularly LeBron James, to win another NBA title. Fortunately for the Lakers, the organization’s preemptive approach ensures that neither James nor any other Lakers will miss any games this season.
