There sure are a lot of slots these days, most of them highly entertaining. But with so many slots to choose from, you’re almost certainly missing the bulk of them. What a shame that you might miss a truly interesting slot, especially when we’re talking about a particularly bizarre or entertaining theme.
We took a look, found some of the most interesting slots, and put together a list. Hence, here is our list of slots with random, fascinating, interesting, or engaging themes. You can check out all of them online at any good casino.
Wooly World
From Microgaming comes a slot that none of us knew about before this. The game itself is straightforward, with 5 reels and 20 paylines. But looking a little closer, you’ll notice something truly bizarre.
Wooly World is all about animals frozen in ice. Not majestic galloping horses, pretty wolves, or beautiful butterflies. No, every prehistoric animal in Wooly World is frozen solid in ice. More fascinating still is that every frozen animal seems rather upset about the situation. A red elephant grits his teeth, apparently struggling with the freezing cold, while an odd green beaver seems completely done with the whole situation.
We’re not sure why Microgaming chose this theme, but we’re sure glad they did. Slot anomalies like this are a sort of weird window into the decisions of a specific person. Bless that person for choosing such an utterly bizarre, entertaining theme.
No Worries
Yes, you can probably already guess that a slot with a name like No Worries is all about Australian culture. But hang on, just what sort of Aussie culture is this? No Worries, while boasting some absolutely stunning artwork, is another that will leave you scratching your head.
Apparently, Australia is overrun with bizarre alternate-reality animals, all comfortable sitting back, enjoying a drink, and just soaking up the sun. See the symbol that features something akin to a kangaroo kicking back in a hammock. Is that a kangaroo? What about the symbol featuring something that might be a koala enjoying his own drink as he chills in a pot of water? Just what the heck is going on here?
Yes, the slot is clearly trying to capture the laid-back attitude of Australians. But the artwork is very strange, as excellent as it is. Try out No Worries yourself, even if just to try and figure out what the artist was thinking.
Fruity Burst
Take one look at Fruity Burst and hear yourself exclaim; what the heck?! We’re all, of course, familiar with fruit slots. Slots with a fruit theme are traditional, and there are a number of games using fruit as a central theme. At popular sites like Jackpot Wheel casino you’ll find a few different fruit-themed games as they’re such a smash hit.
However, in most cases, you’ll also notice that the fruit isn’t all looking back at you with deeply disturbing faces. Yes, every piece of fruit in Fruity Burst is anthropomorphic, and boy, oh boy, is it unnerving. It isn’t clear what all the fruit is happy about, but perhaps none of us will ever really understand the thoughts of sentient fruit.
More to the point, look over to the right of the reels and notice the fruit merchant. Yes, while all his fruit is excitedly smiling, he seems, in contrast, to do nothing but produce a gloomy scowl. It’s all very bizarre and, if anything is perhaps an in-joke between the developers at Playtech. Either way, check out Fruity Burst yourself, just so you can say you’ve come face-to-face with a bizarrely smiling orange.
John Wayne’s Winning Streak
Alright, this isn’t as bizarre as other games on this list. What John Wayne’s Winning Streak is, however, is confirmation that slots sure were simpler in times past. John Wayne is the king of many 50s and 60s Western films, but devoting an entire slot to him as a cowboy seems strange. This isn’t to say that John Wayne didn’t act well as a cowboy, but rather that he himself isn’t, in fact, a cowboy.
To clarify, the theme isn’t about a particular John Wayne film, or a particular role of his. It’s simply just him as a cowboy. We’re sure there are plenty of retro film fans that will enjoy this game, but we still contest that John Wayne isn’t a cowboy. He’s an actor.
Rubik’s Riches
From the strange and unusual to a truly fascinating slot, let’s take a look at Rubik’s Riches. Yes, there isn’t anything funny about Rubik’s Riches; this is instead a game that really makes us sit up and pay attention. To put it bluntly, Rubik’s Riches is brilliant.
Here’s the idea: instead of spinning reels, you spin a Rubik’s Cube. Payouts come if you match the colors on the cube, as you might expect. However, the concept goes much deeper than this. You get a payout if you match 3 colors anywhere, or higher payouts if you manage to match 6 colours in a consecutive pattern. It’s a fascinating idea, and one of the best concepts we’ve ever seen in a standard slot.
We think Rubik’s Riches deserves much more attention, and suggest you try it out for yourself.
Robyn
Last on our list is Robyn. Did you know that there’s a female Robin Hood? Her name is Robyn, and she’s every bit as cunning and capable as her male counterpart. Robyn isn’t a particularly funny game per se, but rather an effort from Microgaming to produce something unique. In our opinion, the stumble is in how they present the Robyn character. Sadly, for Robyn, she probably misses more than she hits with her bow, mostly because her luscious blonde her is covering half her face. In fact, she’ll have trouble with archery, darts and most sports unless she gets a haircut ASAP.
Robyn is a fairly standard, enjoyable game, but we just find the central character more than a little silly. Try it out, maybe you’ll enjoy Robyn and her smiling horse regardless. Just don’t ask her to shoot an apple off your head.
