Ben Simmons has been on the radar of many NBA teams for a while now, but there are only so many minutes available in the season. With that in mind, it is not surprising that Philadelphia 76ers have found themselves in discussions with the New Orleans Pelicans.
The ben simmons trade request is a story that has been going on for a while now. The Philadelphia 76ers have been trying to trade the young star, but no team seems interested in his services.
The Ben Simmons-Philadelphia 76ers story seems to have been pounded to death in recent months, but just when it seems that nothing new could possible happen short of an actual deal, something new appears. The most recent rumor is that Simmons has a new trade suitor who has yet to be revealed. This small-town mystery squad just adds to the situation’s tensions for all parties involved.
Because small-market NBA clubs have a hard time attracting free players, trading for a star is generally the best option. Now it seems that one of those teams is attempting to do exactly that in order to get Simmons as a crucial member of their squad.

Philadelphia isn’t interested in Simmons, and Simmons isn’t interested in Philadelphia. The two parties have reached an impasse, with the 2016 No. 1 overall selection stating that if he isn’t traded, he would not attend training camp.
Even when his worth is at its lowest, Simmons has gone so far as to declare that it is not his duty to repair his trade value, instead reminding the Sixers that it is their obligation to find the best deal for themselves.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst via The Scoop podcast, a new club is in the hunt to sign Philadelphia’s former franchise superstar:
“You can understand why clubs would be interested in him, and why small-market teams, like the Wolves, wouldn’t necessarily be able to sign a guy like him, but would have a lot of interest. You can’t sign a guy like him with four years remaining on his deal any other way.
I’m not trying to be evasive; I simply have to be cautious what I say. I’m aware of at least one other small-market club that has made an offer for him and is very interested in him. It just hasn’t been made public yet.”
Brian Windhorst of ESPN weighs in on the ongoing Ben Simmons trade saga.
What small-market club might be the next mystery team? Simmons has previously been linked to a number of organizations.
“One of the signals Ben [Simmons] has given back to Philly is that fixing his trade value is not his job…”

The former LSU standout already has a long list of rumored trade destinations. Golden State, the Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota, Toronto, Cleveland, Indiana, Sacramento, Portland, and San Antonio are all reported to have had talks with Philly.
Only a few of the franchises are classified as “small market.” So, who’s still standing?
The Memphis Grizzlies have the pieces in place to make a trade happen, but is Simmons a good match for Ja Morant? He’d assist defensively, but space would be a problem since none of them are excellent outside shooters.
Windhorst may be referring to the New Orleans Pelicans, who are looking to create a splash in order to keep Zion Williamson happy. But, once again, Williamson and/or Brandon Ingram aren’t a good match. The Oklahoma City Thunder is always a possibility and would be a fantastic fit for the 2017-18 Rookie of the Year since he would be able to run his own club as the main player without the burden of winning.
The Utah Jazz are unlikely to make any changes to their core. The Charlotte Hornets are in the same boat. The Orlando Magic could be a viable option. The Detroit Pistons would be a great fit for Simmons to play alongside Cade Cunningham, the No. 1 overall selection in the 2021 draft. We move on to the “larger market” franchises after Detroit.
Although Simmons is leaving Philadelphia, the most intriguing mystery team might be Detroit.
The Pistons may put together a deal that includes Jerami Grant (to assist match wages) and young players like Killian Hayes, as well as draft choices. A trade with Portland for CJ McCollum would be a better return for the 76ers, but if the Trail Blazers aren’t willing to go with him, a Detroit package might be the best alternative for 76ers general manager Daryl Morey.
Simmons will not be wearing a Sixers jersey again, regardless of where he ends up. Philadelphia now has another option as a landing place for the unhappy point guard, thanks to the addition of another “mystery team” to the equation.
Shaquille O’Neal tells Damian Lillard that if he wants to win, he should leave the Portland Trail Blazers: ‘I’m not a big fan of guys banding together, but ‘It’s Just the Way It Is These Days.’
The ben simmons rookie year is a saga that continues to unfold. A mystery team has emerged as the top contender for Ben Simmons, and it could be a small-market team.
