The NBA is back and the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers are ready to start the new season. With a history of rivalry, fans can expect plenty of trash talk between these two teams as they take on the league.
The nba power rankings are a publication that ranks the top NBA teams. The Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers will open up their season on Thursday, October 18th.
The NBA’s preseason begins on Oct. 3 with a matinée between the favorites to dethrone the reigning champion Milwaukee Bucks from the Larry O’Brien Trophy. It feels like a good moment to start the NBA Power Rankings, as the league prepares for its first complete 82-game season since 2018–19.
The Brooklyn Nets will go up the coast from their training camp in San Diego to see the new-look Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center. This one will be big on excitement but little on significance; a big part of the minutes will go to the players wearing Nets and Lakers jerseys in Long Island and the South Bay, respectively.
Once the season begins, the NBA Power Rankings are based on statistics. In the lack of statistics, these rankings look at clubs and rosters, as well as how the season seems to be shaping up.
Tier 6 of the NBA Power Rankings is made up of ping-pong ball chasers.
Oklahoma City Thunder (#30) Orlando Magic (No. 29) Houston Rockets (#28) The Detroit Pistons are ranked 27th in the NBA. Cleveland Cavaliers (#26)
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder’s rising star, has agreed to a max extension on his rookie contract. Then they dismantled the roster around him, hoping to get the most out of the 735 first-round choices that general manager Sam Presti has amassed over the following five years. In Orlando, the Magic terminated the Nikola Vuevi-Evan Fournier-Aaron Gordon core, which had sunk to mediocrity.
The Rockets may be the most entertaining team in the NBA this season. They’ll be terrible, but the youngsters will learn from their mistakes. Cade Cunningham, the first-overall selection, gives optimism to Detroit, but hope is all it has. The Cavaliers haven’t determined what to do with Collin Sexton, but Kevin Love is the team’s linchpin (as in sinking it, not leading it).
Tier 5: Trying your luck at the lottery
San Antonio Spurs (#25) Minnesota Timberwolves (#24) Toronto Raptors (#23) Sacramento Kings (22nd) Washington Wizards (21st)
Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan, it turns out, are about to go through that door. They are, however, dressed in suits rather than uniforms. Gregg Popovich will earn the 26 victories he needs to overtake Don Nelson for first place all-time in coaching victories, but not much more. As the fans count down the seconds till the conclusion of the Glen Taylor era, Minnesota is renovating the front office once again.
The Raptors return to the North after winning a championship the last time they were allowed to play in the city. It’s clear evidence that a lot can happen in two years. Sacramento is on pace to set a club record by going 16 years without making the playoffs. There are a lot of new faces in Washington, including coach Wes Unseld Jr., as well as an endless supply of Bradley Beal rumors.
Tier 4 of the NBA Power Rankings: Living on a Play-In
Charlotte Hornets (#20) 19. Pelicans of New Orleans Memphis Grizzlies (#18) Indiana Pacers (#17) Chicago Bulls (#16)
The Hornets boast LaMelo Ball, the reigning Rookie of the Year, and Terry Rozier, the surprise winner of the two-way sign-and-trade point guard deal with Boston two years ago. There isn’t much more they can do. New Orleans should be higher on this list, according to Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. They won’t be able to stop anybody, and Devonte’ Graham isn’t Kyle Lowry. He’s certainly not Lonzo Ball.
Jaren Jackson’s health will determine how far Ja Morant and the retooled Memphis Grizzlies can go. Morant and Jonas Valaninas led the Grizzlies to the eighth spot, but JV is no longer with the team, and Steven Adams is unable to replace him. For the first time since 2007, Rick Carlisle has returned to Indiana. Is he capable of resurrecting the almost-good old days?
Ball, DeMar DeRozan, and Alex Caruso are among the Bulls’ new guards. Zach LaVine is a superstar, and Vuevi is, too, according to the papers. But it doesn’t seem right.
Tier 3: Last place in the bracket
New York Knicks (#15) Trail Blazers (14), Portland Trail Blazers (14), Portland Trail Blazer Los Angeles Clippers (#13) Boston Celtics (#12) Atlanta Hawks (11th)
Fournier was acquired by the Knicks. Before disappearing in the playoffs, Julius Randle had a fantastic season. RJ Barrett’s next move forward may be big. Unless Larry Nance Jr. is the missing superstar, Portland hasn’t addressed its Damian Lillard issue.
Paul George is a member of the Clippers. They’re talented enough to make the playoffs even without Kawhi Leonard, who hasn’t been scheduled to return. That’s all I’m going to say about it. Boston has a new coach in Ime Udoka, a new-old center in Al Horford, and Marcus Smart is in charge of the offense. What about Atlanta? Trae Young may not receive the phone calls he’s used to. Will they have second thoughts about Clint Capela and Nate McMillan?
Tier 2 of the NBA Power Rankings: Sneaky Challengers
The Miami Heat are ranked 10th. Nuggets, Nuggets, Nuggets, Nuggets Dallas Mavericks (#8) Warriors of Golden State (#7) 76ers (Philadelphia)
The Heat will annoy their opponents. P.J. Tucker, Jimmy Butler, and Kyle Lowry? This squad has the potential to lead the NBA in fake brawls. Denver boasts the reigning NBA MVP Nikola Joki, but it would have a greater chance if Jamal Murray was present. If Kristaps Porziis and Jason Kidd were not on the team, the Mavericks’ prospects would be greater.
Klay Thompson is expected to return to Golden State around Christmas, so anticipate some rust after a 30-month layoff. The Andrew Wiggins saga is the kind of nuisance that a good team can do without. Due to the Ben Simmons soap opera, the 76ers are in the same boat. Keep an eye out for updates.

Phoenix Suns, No. 5
Chris Paul will begin his second season in the same location where he finished the previous one for the first time since 2018. The veteran is also coming off his first participation in the NBA Finals. Devin Booker is a bright rising talent in the NBA. However, returning it will require passing past a revitalized Lakers team and an enraged Utah squad. In the West, adding JaVale McGee and Landry Shamet may not be enough.
Los Angeles Lakers, No. 4
The Lakers believe that if the wealthy grow wealthier, the elderly will get older. Many of LA’s aspirations are predicated on players who are towards the conclusion of their careers rather than the beginning. Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James are both in their 19th seasons. After yet another injury-plagued season, Anthony Davis is facing criticism. Russell Westbrook, on the other hand, is on his fourth club in four seasons. The lineage is unmistakable. The question is if the talent is still of high caliber.
Utah Jazz, No. 3
Donovan Mitchell’s ankle was bothering him throughout the playoffs, and the NBA’s best overall record couldn’t get past the Clippers in the second round without Leonard. Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley have returned, while the Jazz have acquired Rudy Gay and Hassan Whiteside as depth players. This group has the impression that its “best if used by” date is quickly approaching.
Milwaukee Bucks, No. 2

Giannis Antetokounmpo had an NBA Finals clincher to add a title and Finals MVP to his already remarkable résumé. And on his next birthday, he’ll still be 27 years old, which is frightening. The Bucks, on the other hand, will miss Tucker and will have a difficult time replacing his diverse defensive presence. However, winning the title lifts a huge burden off this group’s shoulders. At your risk, sleep on the Bucks.
1. New York Nets

The big three of Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving, if healthy, are the most intimidating in the game. But there’s a huge “if” in that health issue. Last season, the group played eight games together during the regular season and just six games in the playoffs. Despite the absence of Irving and Harden, Durant almost led the Nets over Milwaukee in the second round. The stars are surrounded by an outstanding collection of ring-chasing veterans. Despite being first in the NBA Power Rankings, Irving’s lack of COVID vaccine threatens to derail the entire affair, as he risks missing all of Brooklyn’s home games if he doesn’t obtain it.
On Oct. 19, the real action begins, with three of the top five teams competing on the first night. The Nets are in Milwaukee, while the Lakers are in Los Angeles. The games are about to begin.
