The Dodgers lost Game 6 of the NLCS to the Milwaukee Brewers, losing their best chance at winning a title since 1988. Max Scherzer is one of only three pitchers with 300+ innings pitched in each season since 2016 and has been very successful for his team this year. However, he will not be starting due to an injury that occurred during game 5.
Max Scherzer is a starting pitcher for the Washington Nationals. In Game 6 of the NLCS, Max was not starting for the Dodgers because he pitched in two games in a row.
On Saturday, the Los Angeles Dodgers will travel to Atlanta to play the Braves in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series. It’s a game-or-game situation for LA, which is behind 3-2 in the series and needed a four-run eighth-inning comeback in Game 3 to avoid falling down 3-0.
The Dodgers were a greater favorite at the outset of the game, but were dealt a setback when experienced starting pitcher Max Scherzer was scratched late. Walker Buehler has taken his position, and he will be playing on short rest.
With a fatigued arm, Max Scherzer scratched.

Scherzer will not start Saturday’s game due to arm fatigue, according to ESPN. He complained about his arm being weary after Game 2 on Sunday. Scherzer was called upon in the ninth inning against the San Francisco Giants three days before his Game 2 start. In a 2-1 win, he made the save.
In a 5-4 defeat to the Braves in Game 2, he pitched 4.1 innings and threw 79 pitches. He began to complain about his fatigued arm after the game.
Scherzer remarked, “I’d simply claim my arm was dead.” “I could feel it was still fatigued as I was warming up.”
The Dodgers will turn to Buehler, who will make his second career start on short rest. The first time he did it was in Game 4 of the NLDS against the Giants. In a 7-2 triumph, he pitched 4.1 innings and threw 71 pitches.
Max Scherzer hasn’t been a late scratch in a crucial playoff game before.
The Washington Nationals were in the World Series in 2019 against the Houston Astros. With the series tied at two games each, Scherzer was set to take the mound for Game 5. He was unable to go.
Scherzer struggled to get out of bed that morning due to excruciating neck stiffness. The Nationals scratched him from the starting lineup four hours before the game.
According to The New York Times, Scherzer stated at the time, “This is simply difficult to do anything with.” “This was just a little thing that grew into a large thing that grew into a gigantic thing,” says the narrator.
In a 7-1 defeat, Joe Ross received the last-minute start and threw up four earned runs in five innings.
Scherzer ultimately took the field in Game 7, but he wasn’t at his best. He pitched five innings, giving up four hits and three walks while striking out three batters. Patrick Corbin took his place and won the game for the Nationals, who triumphed 6-2.
Scherzer is one of several Dodgers who will miss Game 6 due to injury.

The Dodgers have a lot of injuries entering into Game 6, but losing Scherzer is a huge blow. This series has already claimed the lives of third baseman Justin Turner and pitcher Joe Kelly. Max Muncy and Clayton Kershaw have both been absent since the regular season’s last weekend.
Buehler now has the Dodgers’ aspirations.
In three playoff starts, Buehler has a 3.77 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 14.1 innings. He was 16-4 with a 2.47 ERA in the regular season. In 207.2 innings, he struck out 212 hitters.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided Buehler some words of encouragement after his effort on short rest.
According to Dodgers Insider, Roberts stated, “Now you’ve ticked a box.” “You’ve thrown in huge games, elimination games, and (a Game) 163, but you’ve never pitched on short rest before. You came out on top when a box was ticked.”
If a Game 7 is necessary, the Dodgers have yet to say whether Scherzer will be ready to pitch.
